Going back to student status, what has been your canopy progression? Started on a Manta 288 - 17 jumps; Fury 220 - 34 jumps; Jonathan 150 - 30 jumps; PD Sabre 135 - 10 jumps; Jonathan 136 - 20 jumps; Jedei 120 - 1500 jumps (many bumps and bruises); Jedei 96 - 600 jumps; every canopy I could possibly jump; PD Velocity 84 - 1000 jumps; and so on and so on...
Most people don't know this about me: Stalling ANY canopy scares the sh*t out of me!
Out of all of your skydives is there one jump that stands out most? Not a skydive, but almost... My first cliff jump from about 3500' off the most famous big wall in the U.S. A surreal experience - WOW.
How long do you plan on skydiving? Forever or at least as long as I can
What do you like most about the sport? Two things: Firstly, the family that I now have that spans the globe and above. Secondly, the ultimate freedom we share and the opportunity it gives us to expand our thoughts and ways of thinking.
What do you like least about the sport? Egos.
Who has been your skydiving mentor? Shawn Leymere - my static line instructor, one-on-one RW coach, eventual 4-way teammate, and the Original swoop demon. He will be forever missed. Now my mentors are JC, Clint Clawson, Heath Richardson. And that's all I have to say about that.
What are your future skydiving goals? To earn a living doing this swoop stuff. I'd like to expand the school of thought on what's possible and what isn't in the realm of human flight.
What safety item do you think is most important and/or most often neglected? Common sense; positive reinforcement of good habits through repitition thorough gear checks, handle touches, emergency procedures, situational awareness, realizing that your safety doesn't end with you. Thinking situations through, from beginning to end, including all possibilities. Sticking to the plan.
How did you become interested in skydiving? I reached a point in my life where I felt I didn't have anything to lose, and I felt like it was a risk worth taking.
I skydive because… that's what I do.
Any suggestions for new students? Cautiously form your own opinions through thorough research from as many qualified sources as possible.
What's the most bad-ass thing you can do in the air? Smile, breathe, relax, and enjoy life to the fullest.
What's your favorite jump aircraft and why? A well maintained Twin Otter with -34s.
Someday I'm going to own… an island and an airplane
If you could do a "fantasy 2-way" with anybody (living or deceased), whom would it be with and where would it take place? A 3-way with my mom and dad.
Were you a hard child to raise? Very
Someday I'm going to own… I'm just borrowing all this stuff while I'm here.
The toughest thing to do in skydiving is: everything...nothing...I don't know.
The typical flailer or a complete natural from jump number one? Initially awkward - but a quick learner.
Out of all your thousands of skydives, is there one jump you would like to do over again? I wouldn't change any of them - they're all equally important experiences - bad or good
What do you consider your most significant life achievement? Letting go.
While in freefall, what has been your strangest thought? "How come I'm not scared???" "I should be scared, shouldn't I? At least a little.."
FREEFLYING or SWOOPING? Both...often
What is the future of swoop competitions? Big name sponsors and public arenas.
Greatest accomplishment in skydiving? getting to know my self ...changing my perspective on life, facing fear of death and fear of life . Or depending on who,s asking # 1 overall on the Proswoopingtour 2004....Currently
Describe yourself in five words or less: I'm a dirty, dirty boy.
